Consultation Update

Blog

Posted 5 years ago

Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback on our vision for the future of Borough Triangle. We value all of your contributions – which are currently being reviewed and will be taken into consideration as we continue to develop our proposals for the site. You will have further opportunities to share your views on our emerging designs in the New Year – and we welcome any further comments in the meantime.

Engagement activities

As set out in the ‘Working with the community’ blog, we advertised the consultation using a wide range of online and offline tools, including a printed newsletter; an advert in Southwark News; targeted social media adverts in the local area; and e-newsletter updates sent to people who signed up to our mailing list.

We held a series of one-to-one meetings with local stakeholders – including councillors and residents’ groups. These discussions were constructive and we look forward to continuing these meetings as we develop the design proposals further over the coming months.

We also engaged face-to-face with local residents and visitors to the area, to raise awareness of the consultation and discuss our vision, holding three door-knocking sessions on the Rockingham and Scovell estates and three pop-up sessions at Mercato Metropolitano and in Newington Gardens in late October and early November.

In total, the team knocked on c. 500 doors on the Rockingham and Scovell estates and engaged with c. 400 people during the pop-up sessions. These sessions have been invaluable, and we have enjoyed getting to know the local community better. We look forward to engaging further with the local community in the New Year.

Your feedback

Between the launch of the website on 20th October and the 24th November, almost 2,000 people visited the website and we received over 500 responses to our four initial surveys. We greatly appreciate the high level of engagement to date, which has provided our team with some valuable and insightful feedback.

There was broad support among those who gave their feedback for the principle of redeveloping the site – with particularly strong support for the creation of new public open spaces and pedestrian routes, both of which are key elements of our current vision.

Key themes raised in responses included:

  • The value of Mercato Metropolitano to the area and its future on the site
  • The need for affordable housing
  • Support for the greening of the site and safe spaces accessible to all

We hope to provide updates on all of these topics in the New Year, along with updates on other themes that arise from future consultation events.

Next steps

We are in the process of reviewing the feedback we have received so far as we continue to develop our proposals for Borough Triangle.

We are planning to provide an update on our progress and our emerging design proposals in the New Year – including new blogs and surveys on the website. You can let us know your preferences in terms of future consultation by completing our new survey.

In the meantime, please get in touch with us at contact@boroughtriangle.com if you have any questions or comments.
