Berkeley Homes
An experienced team is developing ideas for the future of Borough Triangle, led by Berkeley Homes (South East London) Ltd., a Division of Berkeley Group plc.
The Berkeley Group has a long-standing reputation for building award-winning homes and neighbourhoods across London, Birmingham and the South of England. They have a strong track record of investing in communities in Southwark and across London, delivering high quality, sustainable homes and neighbourhoods promoting wellbeing and community cohesion.
Berkeley Homes acquired the site in September 2020. Since then, we have appointed a first-class project team to develop a vision for the redevelopment of the site and have held initial meetings with officers at Southwark Council earlier this year. Our design process has closely followed the ongoing review of the draft New Southwark Plan, in which the site is allocated for redevelopment (under NSP41).
Our approach involves working collaboratively with local authorities and communities to maximise the opportunities of challenging and complex sites. To date, Berkeley has built over 1,900 homes in Southwark, with over 3,000 further homes in the pipeline.
Local Investment
At Berkeley Homes, we are committed to maximising local labour and local procurement opportunities, whilst also training up members of the local community through our award-winning Apprenticeship and Street Elite training programmes.
Our apprenticeship programme has helped c. 400 young people so far to find work or re-engage with further education, while our support for the Street Elite programme has helped young people from hard to reach backgrounds – impacted by crime, violence and inequality – to access work, education and training opportunities. Street Elite participants have been recruited directly from disadvantaged areas in Southwark and across London.
This ensures that jobs and apprenticeships associated with any of our developments are created for the benefit and empowerment of local people.
Sustainability
Berkeley is committed to sustainability across all of our developments.
Our proposals are designed with sustainability and biodiversity at their core. We are committed to challenging the climate crisis by building low carbon, resilient homes and offering new biodiverse environments as part of our 2030 Vision – an ambitious long-term strategy which focuses on transforming tomorrow.
Key priorities for development within the Vision include:
These commitments ensure that we will achieve our target of reducing carbon emissions in homes by 40% by 2030, while reducing our absolute construction emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2040, creating a more sustainable future for the next generation.
Berkeley has been recognised for its sustainability credentials with a place on CDP’s prestigious Climate Change ‘A List’, which includes global companies ‘leading the way to a more sustainable future’.
