A recap on our vision
The redevelopment of Borough Triangle presents a unique opportunity to connect the site with the wider community.
Our vision for the site includes new, safe and attractive pedestrian routes; cycle spaces for residents, workers and visitors; promoting health and wellbeing and contributing towards improving local air quality.
There was strong support among local people for the principle of creating new routes, further opening the site up to the surrounding area.
New pedestrian routes
We are proposing a pedestrian route from Borough Road to Newington Causeway across the site, with attractive landscaping and planting encouraging people to move through the new public spaces and providing opportunities for informal play.
The Borough Triangle site neighbours the railway arches and whilst this is not within the site boundary the proposed landscaping will be future-proofed to incorporate any future transition through the arches. The ‘Low Line’ – a walking route along the railway arches – is an aspiration of Southwark Council and we have been considering this as we have developed our proposals.
The emerging proposals include a direct access to the site from the arches, via the new woodland area proposed for the site. For more information on the emerging proposals for the woodland area and other public spaces, please click here.
We are committed to ensuring that all landscaped paths – including within the woodland area – will be accessible to all.

Promoting sustainable and active travel
As set out above – and in line with Southwark Council’s policies and Berkeley’s own ‘Vision 2030’ sustainability commitments – our emerging proposals aim to promote active travel, health and wellbeing.
The development will be predominantly car-free. This means that there will be no car parking spaces for residents – except spaces for Blue Badge Holders, for those who may require these.
The site has good connections to public transport – including the Underground and local buses – with a Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) rating of 6b – which is the highest possible score.
There are also a number of cycle routes in the surrounding area, providing further sustainable transport options for residents and visitors. In line with the Council’s priorities, the development will encourage cycling and we will aim to maximise the amount of cycle storage.
