A recap on our vision
The redevelopment of Borough Triangle presents a unique opportunity to connect the site with the wider community. This includes new, safe and attractive pedestrian routes and cycle spaces for residents, workers and visitors; promoting health and wellbeing; and contributing towards improving local air quality.
There has been strong support among local people during consultation so far for the principle of creating new routes, further opening the site up to the surrounding area.
New pedestrian routes
We are proposing a pedestrian route between Borough Road and Newington Causeway, with attractive landscaping and planting encouraging people to move through the new public spaces and providing opportunities for informal play.
The site neighbours the railway arches and the proposals have been designed to accommodate potential developments and improvements here (with the arches themselves lying outside the site boundary). The ‘Low Line’ – a walking route along the railway arches – is an aspiration of Southwark Council and our developed proposals are flexible to allow for a direct access to the site from the archeThe landscaping approach will also provide transitions between new woodland areas and communal/playspace.

Public transport connections
The site has excellent connections to public transport, including the Underground and local buses. It has a Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) rating of 6b – the highest possible score.

There are also a number of cycle routes in the surrounding area, providing further sustainable transport options for residents and visitors. There will be cycle spaces on-site (see below).

Promoting sustainable and active travel
In line with Southwark Council’s policies and aspirations in light of the Climate Emergency, as well as Berkeley’s own ‘Our Vision 2030’ sustainability commitments, the proposals aim to promote active travel, health and wellbeing
The development will be predominantly car-free. This means that there will be no car parking spaces for residents – except spaces for Blue Badge Holders, for those who may require these.
We are proposing c. 1,700 long-stay cycle parking spaces for local residents, and c. 270 short stay spaces, shared between workers and visitors to the site. All vehicle accommodation will be at basement level, including cycle stores and servicing bays for loading vehicles.
We are also proposing electric vehicle charging points at basement level
